The idea of marriage flows from the heart of God, whose plan it is to woo a people to Himself as voluntary lovers. We did not deserve God’s love, nor could we earn it. When we begin to understand the nature of God’s love, it gives us the capacity to express love. God’s love is the love of choice. It’s not the love of companionship, or friendship, or feeling that God first extends love to us -– though these are all included. There are two reasons God loves: 1. “God Is Love.” 2. He chose to love. He grants us grace, He dispenses mercy and forgiveness and patience -- but the language describing God’s love is unique from all the other descriptions of God’s gifts. God expresses love, yes, but HE loves because HE IS LOVE.
